Initiative aligned with the nation’s 250th anniversary
The U.S. Department of Education announced the creation of a coalition that brings together more than 40 organizations to promote civics education across the country. The project is part of preparations for the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States.
Education Secretary Linda McMahon emphasized that the initiative aims to inspire and mobilize youth toward active and informed citizenship.
America 250 Civics Education Coalition
The project, named America 250 Civics Education Coalition, will be overseen by the Department of Education and led by the America First Policy Institute (AFPI), a nonprofit organization. The coalition includes national and state groups committed to strengthening civic knowledge and encouraging a shared understanding of America’s founding principles.
According to the department’s statement, the initiative is dedicated to expanding patriotism, improving civics learning, and creating new opportunities for educational engagement in schools and universities.
Planned activities and programs
While no specific materials have yet been released, the coalition announced a 12-month agenda that includes a nationwide speaking tour, campus lectures, and a college speaker series on fundamental liberties.
Erika Donalds, co-chair of the coalition, explained that the effort seeks to provide future generations with the knowledge necessary to safeguard democratic institutions.
Federal support for civic learning
The Department of Education also confirmed a grant program to promote civic education that covers American history, values, and geography with an unbiased approach. These initiatives reinforce the government’s broader strategy to strengthen civic awareness nationwide.
