Massive Nationwide Protests Expected Across the U.S. Against Federal Policies

“No Kings” Movement Calls for Large-Scale Demonstrations This Weekend

Millions of Americans are expected to join nationwide protests this Saturday under the slogan “No Kings,” as organizers forecast one of the largest coordinated demonstrations in recent years. The movement seeks to oppose the policies of President Donald Trump’s administration, particularly in light of recent ICE operations and National Guard deployments in several Democrat-led cities.

Lisa Gilbert, co-president of Public Citizen, stated that the demonstrations aim “to defend democracy, protect communities, and stand together against abuses of power.” According to organizers, the movement underscores the belief that “America has no kings” and that civic action remains central to holding leaders accountable.

Political Reactions and White House Response

Some Republican officials have criticized the demonstrations, calling them “anti-American.” House Speaker Mike Johnson described the planned rallies as a “hate America event.”
When asked about the accusations that the president was acting like a monarch, White House spokeswoman Abigail Jackson replied, “Who cares?” and declined further comment.

Background and Social Context

In June, the “No Kings” movement reported about five million participants across more than 2,000 events nationwide. Organizers expect an even larger turnout this weekend.
Harvard sociologist and Assistant Professor of Public Policy Liz McKenna noted that while large-scale movements have historically influenced social change, their overall impact has diminished in recent decades.
McKenna added that although global protest participation has surged, many such movements have struggled to achieve lasting outcomes, citing past examples of high-profile demonstrations.
