Hollywood is experiencing internal divisions after the release of two open letters presenting opposing views on the war in Gaza and a proposed boycott of Israeli film institutions.

More than 5,000 actors and filmmakers, including Pedro Pascal, Javier Bardem, Emma Stone and Gael García Bernal, signed a letter on September 9 organized by Filmmakers for Palestine. The statement pledges to avoid collaboration with Israeli film organizations, which the group accuses of being linked to genocide and apartheid against Palestinians. Letter rejecting the boycott
In response, another letter gathered over 1,200 signatures from Hollywood figures, including Liev Schreiber, Mayim Bialik and Sharon Osbourne. This group argues that the boycott represents discrimination and censorship, limiting artistic diversity. According to the statement, the pledge silences dissenting Israeli voices and diverts attention from Hamas’ actions. The signatories also call for the immediate release of hostages held in Gaza as a step toward peace.
