Trump Ends Secret Service Protection for Kamala Harris

Revocation follows the expiration of an extended security period

President Donald Trump has ended the Secret Service protection granted to former Vice President Kamala Harris, according to her communications team. The decision concludes a special extension that went beyond the standard period of protection for former vice presidents.

Standard rules for former vice presidents’ security

By established protocol, former U.S. vice presidents receive Secret Service protection for six months after leaving office. For Harris, this period would have ended in July, but she had been granted an extension that has now been revoked.

Context of the decision and Harris’ current activities

The change comes as Harris begins a nationwide tour to promote her new book, 107 Days, which recounts her brief presidential campaign from the previous year. Despite the withdrawal of official protection, Harris conveyed appreciation to the Secret Service for their professionalism and dedication during her time under their watch.

Current residence and additional revocations

Since January, Harris has been living in Los Angeles, following her departure from Washington. Trump’s decision also affects the adult children of former President Joe Biden, who have likewise lost their Secret Service protection.

The move underscores a strict adherence to established security timelines for former officials, with limited exceptions subject to presidential discretion.
