Authorities confirm capture of the alleged gunman after university shooting

Utah authorities confirmed the arrest of Tyler Robinson, identified as the suspect in the killing of activist Charlie Kirk during an event at Utah Valley University. The arrest took place Thursday night after an extensive investigation involving state and federal agencies.

According to official reports, one of Robinson’s relatives informed a friend about comments suggesting a confession. This information was passed on to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, which helped lead investigators to the suspect’s location.

Evidence recovered during the investigation

Authorities stated that Robinson had shown increased political involvement in recent years. Testimonies from family members and a roommate indicated that he expressed strong opposition to Kirk’s viewpoints. Investigators also reviewed Discord messages allegedly from Robinson, which referenced retrieving a rifle wrapped in a towel.

Law enforcement recovered a Mauser bolt-action rifle with a mounted scope, believed to be the weapon used in the attack. Bullets with unusual inscriptions were also found, containing political references and mocking phrases.

Kirk was fatally shot on Wednesday while addressing students at Utah Valley University. Surveillance footage showed the suspect arriving on campus in a gray Dodge Challenger and later fleeing after the shooting.
