Pedro Pascal reflects on his career and thoughts about surviving an apocalypse

Recognition for his role in The Last of Us

Chilean-born actor Pedro Pascal, nominated for an Emmy for his performance in The Last of Us, said he is not certain he would want to survive a real-life apocalyptic event. He explained that avoiding stress would be a priority, though the presence of loved ones might encourage him to face such a scenario.

Based on a hit video game, the series portrays the collapse of society after a fungal outbreak turns people into aggressive creatures. Pascal plays Joel, a man coping with the loss of his daughter who meets Ellie, a teenager who could be humanity’s last hope. He shared that the role introduced him to the gaming world, something that particularly excited his nephews.

Artistic journey and recent achievements

Over the past decade, Pascal has become one of Hollywood’s most notable leading actors. He has appeared in productions such as The Mandalorian and will soon star in Eddington, Materialistsy The Fantastic Four: First Steps. However, his road to success was lengthy: he spent much of his 20s and 30s in the New York theater scene before landing his breakthrough role in 2014 as Oberyn Martell in Game of Thrones.

Personal experiences and artistic background

Pascal has emphasized the value of vulnerability and sensitivity in his craft, even when they are sometimes seen as weaknesses. He recalled the emotional challenge of hosting Saturday Night Live on the anniversary of his mother’s passing, and reflected on how his dance training benefited him in choreographed fight scenes. He also shared that his parents were exiled from Chile for their involvement in opposition movements during the military dictatorship, an experience that deeply shaped his family’s history.
