Leading Artists and New Categories Highlight This Year’s Awards

Lady Gaga, Bruno Mars, and Kendrick Lamar lead the nominations for the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards, one of the most anticipated annual music events in the United States. Gaga has earned 12 nominations, followed by Mars with 11 and Lamar with 10. Sabrina Carpenter and Ariana Grande are also among the top contenders.

Gaga is nominated for major awards including Artist of the Year and Best Album for Mayhem. Her collaboration with Bruno Mars, Die With A Smile, is in the running for Song of the Year, Best Collaboration, Best Pop, and Video of the Year. Both artists are currently touring in the U.S.

Beyoncé and Taylor Swift Receive Single Nominations

Beyoncé and Taylor Swift, tied for the most VMA wins with 30 each, are nominated only in the Artist of the Year category this year. Neither artist released a new album over the past 12 months, but both embarked on large-scale tours. Swift remains the solo artist with the most Moonman trophies, while Beyoncé’s total includes collaborative wins.

Last year, Swift was the night’s biggest winner, taking home seven awards, including Artist and Video of the Year.

The 2025 VMAs introduce two new award categories: Best Country and Best Pop Artist, reflecting a broader recognition of musical genres. The ceremony is scheduled for September 7 at UBS Arena in New York. As of now, there are no official announcements regarding this year’s MTV Europe Music Awards, which are reportedly on hold.
