Colorado Dentist on Trial for Allegedly Poisoning Wife with Protein Shakes

Prosecutors Allege Premeditation and Attempts to Obstruct Investigation

A Colorado dentist is standing trial for allegedly poisoning his wife with protein shakes, resulting in her death in March 2023. James Craig, 47, faces a first-degree murder charge and five additional counts related to actions he allegedly took while in custody, including solicitation to harm the lead detective in the case.

According to court records, Angela Craig, 43, a mother of six, was hospitalized three times in a 10-day span with symptoms such as dizziness, headaches, and vomiting before being declared brain dead. Toxicology reports later found cyanide and tetrahydrozoline in her system—chemicals found in various over-the-counter products.

Digital Footprints and Unusual Purchases Raise Suspicion

A 52-page affidavit details internet searches and online purchases made by Craig for multiple poisons, including cyanide and arsenic. Evidence also includes text messages, witness interviews, and surveillance footage. Authorities believe Craig was motivated by financial issues and an extramarital affair, allegedly coordinating meetings with another woman during Angela’s hospitalization.

Prosecutors claim that from jail, Craig attempted to interfere with the case by offering money to inmates to fabricate testimony and carry out violent acts against investigators.

Defense Points to Suicide Theory, Challenges Witness Reliability

The defense concedes that Angela had poison in her system and that Craig was having an affair but argues these facts do not prove he killed her. They propose the possibility of suicide and urge the jury to consider all evidence without letting emotions or moral judgments cloud their view.

If convicted, Craig faces life imprisonment without the possibility of parole. The trial continues as both sides present key evidence and witness testimonies.
