D.C. lawyers’ association leadership race intensifies amid political tensions

The election for the presidency of the D.C. Bar Association, a nonprofit organization, has sparked unprecedented interest, reflecting the polarized political climate. Bob Spagnoletti, the association’s CEO, reported that over 30,000 people have already voted, surpassing the previous record set in 1990 by more than three times.

The candidates are Brad Bondi, a prominent securities attorney, and Diane Seltzer, an employment lawyer who runs her own firm. Seltzer has focused her campaign on ensuring the safety and protection of legal professionals, while Bondi has emphasized keeping the association free from political debates.

The race has been marked by tensions and accusations. Seltzer has committed to upholding the rule of law and ensuring that lawyers can practice without fear. In contrast, Bondi has highlighted his experience and his goal of maintaining the association’s political neutrality.

Voting for the election ends on June 4, with results expected to be announced shortly thereafter.
