Apple focuses on new OS design and user features, with limited updates on artificial intelligence

Apple highlights design overhaul and new features at annual developer conference

At its annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in Cupertino, California, Apple unveiled a refreshed operating system interface and several new features aimed at enhancing user experience across its ecosystem of devices. The new visual style, described as “Liquid Glass,” is designed to offer a more fluid and responsive experience on iPhones, iPads, Apple Watches, and Macs.

In addition to the interface redesign, Apple introduced a live translation feature and a new app designed for gaming. One of the most notable announcements was the decision to open its proprietary AI model, “Apple Intelligence,” to third-party developers, enabling broader integration within external applications.

Despite these updates, artificial intelligence—one of the most anticipated topics following last year’s conference—received limited attention. Previous announcements regarding a more interactive and capable Siri have not yet materialized. Senior Vice President of Software Engineering Craig Federighi acknowledged the delay, stating that more development time was needed to meet Apple’s quality standards. He confirmed that additional details would be shared over the next year.

A demonstration during the keynote illustrated how Apple’s AI could be used to generate a personalized study test from class notes, highlighting potential future applications in education and productivity.

No new devices or hardware upgrades were introduced during the event. However, Apple continues to face external challenges, including the possibility of trade tariffs, legal scrutiny in various regions, and regulatory issues tied to its app store operations. Analysts suggest that while Apple’s AI strategy may appear slower compared to competitors, the company has historically succeeded by refining and optimizing technologies rather than being first to market.
