A legendary Star Wars prop enters the collectors’ market
The red lightsaber wielded by Darth Vader in the Star Wars saga will be auctioned for the first time. This film prop was used during the production of The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, including the iconic duel where the character reveals his connection to Luke Skywalker.
According to Propstore, the auction house organizing the event, the item is valued between $1 million and $3 million. The prop consists of a black and chrome metal cylinder showing visible wear. It was originally a camera flash attachment that was transformed into one of cinema’s most recognizable weapons.
Exhibition tour ahead of the auction
Before the official sale, the lightsaber has been showcased in major cities including London, New York, and Beverly Hills. Fans and collectors were able to view it in person, with the tour concluding in Los Angeles. On September 4, Propstore will open bidding for the item.
Other iconic film props included in the auction
Alongside Darth Vader’s lightsaber, other well-known movie artifacts will also be auctioned. Among them are Indiana Jones’ bullwhip, the neuralyzer from Men in Black, and a clapperboard used during the filming of Jaws.
This auction highlights memorabilia from some of the most influential films in popular culture. Collectors and fans alike will be watching closely to see how much the legendary lightsaber of one of cinema’s most enduring villains will fetch.
