Departure follows a period marked by internal tension and strategic challenges
Linda Yaccarino, who took over as chief executive officer of X two years ago, announced on Wednesday that she is stepping down from her position, sharing the news through a post on the platform.
Exit announcement includes thanks, but no specific reason
In her message, Yaccarino thanked the company and Elon Musk for the opportunity, without citing any specific reasons for her decision to leave. “When Elon Musk first shared his vision for X with me, I knew it was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. I’m immensely grateful,” she wrote.
During her time at X, Yaccarino played a central role in leading the company’s advertising efforts and served as its public representative in Washington on online child safety policy discussions.
A complex leadership role in a time of transition
Yaccarino was appointed CEO shortly after Elon Musk acquired the company in 2022. Her tenure coincided with significant internal changes, including major staff reductions, reinstatement of previously banned accounts, and shifts in content moderation policies.
Previously an advertising executive at NBCUniversal, Yaccarino was considered a stabilizing presence capable of bringing advertisers back to the platform. However, ongoing challenges, including public controversies involving the company’s leadership, made the role increasingly difficult.
Musk acknowledges contributions; future leadership nuclear
Elon Musk publicly thanked Yaccarino for her work, though no successor has been named. Her resignation closes a turbulent chapter for X and raises questions about the platform’s future strategic direction.
